Car park managers clarify their parking lines

The management of Twyford Railway Station car park will be clarifying the parking bay lines so as to eliminate any confusion over where cars should be left.

APCOA parking management specialists, who manage the site for rail company First Great Western, said the work would minimise the number of contentious tickets.

The move follows a number a complaints from people who had received parking tickets or been clamped for leaving their cars aligned with old markings.

One of these people was Frank Breedlove, of Harvest Drive, Sindlesham, who took photos to prove where his car was parked and whose year-long stand-off with APCOA led to the changes being implemented.

"I sent them a picture from my mobile phone showing I was parked between the lines but they said I was over the lines at the bottom," he said.

A spokeswoman for APCOA maintained that the parking lines were sufficiently clear, but that they would make them even clearer so as to avoid time and money consuming cases like they experienced with Mr Breedlove.

"After investigating Mr Breedlove’s challenge to the ticket issued in May 2009, the original bay markings were found to be sufficiently clear," she said. “However, after discussion with our client it has been decided to make markings even clearer for customers.”

The work will be completed in two phases with the first one being carried out immediately.
