Louth car park management switch keeps it open
27/01/2012
The owners of a crucial car park in the Lincolnshire town of Louth are to take over its management and keep it open, much to the relief of local people.
Traders and residents had been worried about the fate of the short stay car park in Eastgate, after East Lindsey District Council said they would not be running it as of February 6 this year. The car park management will now, however, be taken on by owners George LB Ltd, and the 42-space facility will remain available to visitors and businesses.
A spokesman for George LB Ltd has said that they do not foresee having to implement any significant increases in the parking tariffs charged on the site.
“We took ownership of the Eastgate car park site when we bought the nearby Kwik Save in 2007 and understood at that time that there was an existing goodwill agreement between the retailer and the council,” the spokesman told the Louth Target newspaper.
“Unfortunately, it is no longer viable for us to continue to [maintain this agreement] and we believe that the current solution enables us to make ownership of the car park more financially viable to us without having an adverse effect on local shoppers and residents.”
